Achievements

• Successful pilot and roll-out of a 14 person strong Street Care clean team, tasked with cleaning the city centre streets
• Facilitation of Manchester's recognition for an ATCM Purple Flag award for 'A Better Night Out'
• A new strategic plan for the city centre, covering 2009-2012, has been produced in partnership with Manchester City Council.
• Cityco commissioned a strategic review of retailing in the next five to ten year period.
• Cityco played a key role on the Regional Centre Transport Strategy by providing opportunities for the business community to contribute to its development.
• Cityco led a partnership of retailers to deliver a Christmas Trading Campaign in November and December 2007.
• Environmental charity ENCAMS and Cityco have developed an approach to monitor and ultimately improve cleanliness of the city centre.
• Achievement of the first Home Office Safer Shopping Award for the city centre.
• Launch of the hugely successful Metroshuttle free city centre bus service - nine highly distinctive buses operating a hop on, hop off service on two routes around the city centre.
• Setting up individual partnership groups, including Large Stores Group, King Street Traders Group and Exchange Square Management Group.
• Running a £750,000 award winning city centre marketing campaign.
• Establishing City Centre Rangers.
• Setting up Street Care Rangers scheme to tackle flyposting, graffiti etc.
• Implementation of a £1.25 million Street Crime Warden scheme, putting 20 high visibility Wardens onto the streets of the city centre.
• Purchase of a £140,000 litter retrieval boat to clean up the canals in the city centre.
• Implementation of a £75,000 street washing programme across 15 key streets in the city centre.
