type of event
There are two criteria for use of outdoor public realm areas in Manchester City Centre.
Commercial Hire
Covering branded advertising/promotional campaigns. Using space for commercial events will be subject to approval, and carries a fee.
Non-Commercial Hire
Covering charitable promotions or events organised by, sponsored by, or linked explicitly to Manchester City Council.
application process
- Any application should be made in writing at least 28 days in advance of the proposed event date
- Verbal applications will not be accepted
- Applicants should be aware that the city’s civic events schedule is populated months in advance, so advice will be given on availability
- Any unauthorised activity will be subject to enforcement by police and council officials.
Applications will be assessed on a number of criteria including:
- Quality of the event
- Breadth of appeal
- Timing & location
- Avoidance of nuisance
- Absence of conflict with other areas of council policy, aims, activities and responsibilities
- Acceptability of level of any associated disruption (to traffic, pedestrians, churches, business continuity etc.), relative to the likely benefit of the event.
