Manchester’s 2009 Christmas campaign – 'See What Manchester’s Made Of’ – promoted the city centre’s strong retail and leisure offer across a range of media including TV, radio, online and a special printed shopping map.

Commissioned by CityCo in partnership with Manchester City Council, Marketing Manchester and GMPTE, the campaign primarily focused on the depth and diversity of Manchester’s exceptional retail offer. The campaign had a strong public transport message, encouraging people to choose the train, tram or bus as the easy option for a day or night out in the city at Christmas.

The 'See What Manchester’s Made Of’ concept was developed by Manchester design agency Dinosaur and transformed into a TV commercial, directed by Manchester-based Oscar and BAFTA nominated animator, Barry Purves. Other media included radio, outdoor and print advertising, a large-scale door-drop of printed maps and extensive PR campaign – supported by the production of specially designed Manchester gift wrap.

It was the first time Manchester had developed a destination marketing campaign on such a large scale.
