Sackville St

Saturday 18 – Sunday 19 February & Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 February 2012

Sackville St will be closed from Whitworth St – Bloom St (Bloom St open to traffic) on Saturday 18 – Sunday 19 February, and from Bloom St to Portland St on Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 February.

Metrolink Second City Crossing – Site Tests

9 – 10 February 2012

As part of the development of the Metrolink Second City Crossing proposals, consultants Mott MacDonald will be carrying out some site tests in the section of Cross Street between New Market Street and Market Street.

The testing will take place on Thursday 9 February – Friday 10 February 2012 and will involve a series of ‘hammer drops’ in the road. This will cause some noise however it will be intermittent and Metrolink aim to keep any disturbance to a minimum.

Victoria St will be closed to traffic to enable development around Manchester Cathedral.

Oxford St

22 November

One lane of Oxford St is due to be closed from TUESDAY 22 NOVEMBER to facilitate emergency United Utilities repairs to the feeder sewer.

The closure will be from Whitworth St – Portland St and could remain in place over the festive period.

Part of the footway, the loading bay and first lane adjacent to St James’ Building will be closed, two carriageway lanes will remain operational.

Changes to parking in Manchester city centre

Parking meters

From Monday 24 October, charges will apply to marked parking spaces from 8am-8pm Monday to Sunday, adding an extra two hours in the evening, and also all day Sunday.

One hour maximum stay spaces will be extended to two hours maximum stay.
Once parked, drivers can return to ‘top up’ their ticket as long as they don’t exceed the maximum time stated on the meter.

Single yellow lines and loading bays

From Monday 24 October, parking on single yellow lines will only be allowed 8pm-8am.

From Monday 24 October, current loading bays that operate from Monday to Saturday 8am – 6pm will change to Monday to Sunday 8am – 8pm.

New hours of operation to shared use spaces: please check signage upon arrival

Parking in marked spaces

This will continue to be free of charge on Bank Holidays.

Other changes will also apply

New pricing structure – pay for each 30 minutes (rather than per 15 minutes)

Residents parking changes to make permits valid Mon-Fri 8am-9am and 5pm-8pm, and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Great Ancoats St

Until January 2012

From Old Mill St into the city centre.

The inside lane will be closed, access will be maintained to all businesses, intermittent delays to traffic.
