TUC Rally set for Wednesday 30 November - ROAD CLOSURES & PARKING RESTRICTIONS
Industrial action – 30 November
Important road closure and parking restriction information
The Trades Union Congress (TUC) is organising a major march and rally in Manchester city centre on Wednesday 30 November 2011. The march forms part of industrial action taking place over proposed public sector pension reforms.
Greater Manchester Police and Manchester City Council have been working closely with the TUC to facilitate this demonstration while minimising disruption to people working, visiting or living in the city centre.
The marchers will assemble at Liverpool Road, where there will be a road closure from 10am. The march will start from there at 11.30am and continue along Deansgate, John Dalton Street, Princess Street, Portland Street, and finally along Oxford Road to Whitworth Park at 1pm, where the marchers will hold a short rally until 2.30pm.
Public transport and a number of roads within the city will be affected by this event, and road closures and traffic diversion plans will be in operation on the day for safety purposes. Warning notices on key routes will be in place prior to the event. Motorists will be advised to use the Ring Road where possible while city centre roads are closed. It should be noted that delays will occur, and extra time should be added to journeys to allow for such delays.
The following roads will be affected or closed between 10am and 2pm on Wednesday 30 November 2011:
Liverpool Road
Portland Street (from Princess Street to Oxford Street
Deansgate (from Blackfriars and Bridge Street)
John Dalton Street (from Deansgate to Cross Street)

We will endeavour to open roads as soon as possible after the event once the route has been cleared.
Parking suspensions
Parking bays are currently suspended on Princess Street at the side of the Town Hall due to the Christmas Markets. There are currently no new planned suspensions on the route of this march for Wednesday 30 November.
Access to premises
Residents living directly on, or with secured parking off, any of the above route roads, who need to use their cars on Wednesday 30 November during the times specified should use alternative parking on nearby roads or car parks away from the roads affected. You will not be able to get to and from your property in your vehicle during the period that the road closure is in place. Please do not leave your vehicle parked on the route itself as it may be removed for safety purposes.
