Manchester Arndale hits 40 millionth customer
Manchester Arndale achieves a new annual footfall record of over 40 million visitors.
Manchester Arndale, the UK’s largest inner-city shopping centre, has beaten its best-ever annual footfall figures. This was achieved on Boxing Day when the number of shoppers for the year reached an impressive 40 million. The total footfall figure on Boxing Day was 190,754 – an increase on 1.8% on last year.
At the start of December, the centre realised it was on target to beat its 39 million footfall record of last year after beating its best-ever Saturday footfall figures on 3rd December. That week alone, Manchester Arndale exceeded over one million shoppers.
By the end of week beginning 19th December, the centre achieved its highest-ever weekly footfall recording 1,168, 284 visitors to Manchester Arndale, which is an increase of +8.9% on last year’s figures.
Record shopper numbers attracted by the Boxing Day sales made for a successful trading day and the annual footfall record was easily achieved and surpassed by the end of the day.
The Next sale on Boxing Day alone attracted around 4,500 shoppers and at only 6.40am the store was filled to capacity. The queue for the Next sale had already started at midnight on Christmas Day.
David Allinson, Centre Director at Manchester Arndale said: “These strong footfall figures are a fantastic achievement for the centre. We were confident we would break the 40 million barrier by the end of the year but to achieve the record on Boxing Day goes beyond our best predictions. Retailers are continuing to re-stock their shelves as the sales progress and shoppers are making the most of the reductions on offer. This will continue into the New Year so there are still plenty of bargains to be had.”
