Manchester Garden City volunteers needed at the Northern Quarter Pocket Park
Fancy helping out in the Manchester Garden City Pocket Park in the Northern Quarter?
We’re looking for volunteers to help with staining, assembling, installing and populating Bug Hotels, planting semi-mature species of shrub and spreading soil improver and tree bark.
Location: Meet at the picnic benches on the corner of Thomas St and John St, Northern Quarter.
When: Tuesday 17, Wednesday 18 and possibly Thursday 19 July, from 5.00pm until 7pm.
Where possible please bring gardening tools such as spade, trowels, hoe and any of the following natural materials needed to populate Bug Hotels:
- Bricks with holes in
- Hollow bamboo canes – ideal for bees
- Roof tiles
- Straw
- Plastic drinking straws
- Cardboard tubes and corrugated card
- Twigs
- Dried leaves
- Moss
- Dead hollow stems
- Logs & timber
- Terracotta/ceramic pots
- Rocks and stones
- Pine cones
- Newspaper
- Pen casings
- Wood of all shapes and sizes
- Plastic and ceramic pipes
- Roofing felt
- Slate
