Love Manchester signage is being installed as part of an awareness campaign targeting night time patrons in the Northern Quarter and Hulme Street; two of the most popular areas of Manchester city centre for residents, socialising and business.
The advisory signage has been coordinated by Cityco, Manchester City Council, Greater Manchester Police and the city's two universities, to proactively minimise any potential conflict in these busy areas.
Gary Ellis, Operations Director, Cityco said, "The Northern Quarter's popularity as a social destination is growing all the time; it's always a hive of activity during the evenings and it is a popular residential location. With the help of our partners, Cityco is making every effort to ensure we build on this on ongoing success, whilst seeking to ensure that there is no conflict with residents."
Councillor Jim Battle, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council, added: "The Northern Quarter is a great place for a night out but it is also the home of many people. These signs are a gentle reminder that you could well be standing on somebody's doorstep and we ask people to show respect to the people who live in the area."
Pat Glazebrook, Northern Quarter resident said, "The residents don't want to stop people enjoying themselves on a night out. We just want to be able to enjoy living in the city centre and co-exist with the people who are enjoying going out here. The signage is definitely a positive step towards achieving this."
Lucy Huntley, Student, University of Manchester, also commented "I love the Northern Quarter and I go there all the time with my friends for nights out. I guess sometimes we might forget there are people living in that area too, so I think the signage is a great idea to remind us when we are out and about."
